Man Utd in talks to sign Paraguayan starlet

Manchester United are reportedly in advanced talks over a 17-year-old Paraguayan teenager who could become Ruben Amorim’s first signing.

The Red Devils are understood to be looking at 17-year-old Diego Leon as a potential solution to their long-standing left-back problem since Erik ten Hag took over. With South American football journalist Cesar Luis Merlo reporting that the club have agreed a deal worth around $4 million (£3.1m). With Paraguayan side Cerro Porteno and are now negotiating the player’s bonuses and economic rights.

Fabrizio Romano, a famous Italian journalist, also confirmed that Manchester United are in talks with Cerro Porteno to sign the 17-year-old left-back to become a future star. Similar to the deal with Sekou Kone last summer. Manchester United are still looking for young stars from abroad and a deal worth 4 million US dollars is currently under discussion with Leon’s representatives.

Additionally, according to ยูฟ่าเบท, Leon’s representatives have travelled to England to finalise the move. However, as Leon will turn 18 in April 2025. He is expected to remain with the Paraguayan club until at least next summer.

The 17-year-old is excited to be competing in the 2025 Copa Libertadores with Cerro Porteno and has spoken. About his relationship with United, saying: “I read that Manchester United are interested in me. I don’t know anything about it. Everything is arranged by my agent. I spent four years preparing for this opportunity. You have to take advantage of it when it comes. Now I’m thinking about everything that’s happened this season.”
