“Olmo” to play in the first half of the season

After failing to sign Spain youngster Nico Williams, who impressed at Euro 2024, Barcelona have turned their attentions to compatriot Dani Olmo. And have signed the attacking midfielder from Leipzig for €55m plus €7m in bonuses. The player has reportedly signed a six-year deal, keeping him at the club until 2030.    

However, Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo reports that the Catalan club have a clause in the player’s contract. That will only allow the team to register him for the first half of the season.

We’ll see, because of the financial issues, that is until December 31. The 26-year-old initially missed a couple of games as the club failed to register under La Liga’s strict financial rules. But when Andreas Christensen suffered a long-term injury, Olmo was add to the squad.

The report also states that the player’s contract contains an additional clause that allows the club to register him for the first six months, but if Barca are unable to register Olmo in the second half of the 2024-25 season. He will be eligible to leave the club as a free agent. However, Olmo is believed to not be taking advantage of this clause and is determined to perform at his best for the team.

While club president Joan Laporta reportedly claims that the team. Will not have any problems with player registration, this is not the first time Barcelona have been in this situation. 

This is another time in recent seasons that Barcelona have had problems with player registrations arising from La Liga’s Financial Fair Play regulations after the team had been in dire financial shape for quite some time. 

The Spain international has made 12 appearances for Barca this season, scoring six goals and helping them to the top of La Liga, and Hansi Flick’s side are back in action in the Champions League when they travel to Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night.
